I'm back, dear readers, but this time with an article a
little different than usual. What you will read below is an imaginary speech of
mine at the United Nations. It is true that there are infinite topics to write about,
perhaps more interesting or common, but I would like to focus on a question
that I consider to be of vital importance. So here I am, determined to raise
awareness and prompt as many people as possible to intervene promptly in order
to guarantee everyone the right to a quality education. Why talk to the United
Nations? Well, it is the largest intergovernmental organization in the world
that aims to promote international peace and security, the perfect place to
discuss this delicate problem.
Why pretend to be an ambassador? The problem that I consider to be of main importance now is the lack of accessibility to school for many, so I decided to put myself in the shoes of someone with the sufficient power necessary to implement changes. But mind you, I don't want to become an ambassador, in fact my dream is to be a doctor... but in any case whatever job I have in the future my goal will always be to help our society.
Why is school so important? Are there other people fighting to ensure education for everyone? Of course, those who with determination try to empower, mobilize, inform, educate, involve and make changes are many (just like Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi)...but they are still few, like ants, compared to those ignorant and disinterested in good of our planet and future. What does the future and our planet have to do with anything now, you might ask…. Well, no education no work, no work no money, no money therefore poverty, poverty therefore slavery, slavery no freedom, no freedom no dreams and no talents, repression and no progress, narrow mentalities and wars, hatred and destruction, regression and the end of humanity and the planet. Is this perhaps a bit exaggerated? Maybe, or maybe not...but the fact remains that lack of education is one of the factors that is leading us to rapid ruin.
I wish you a happy reading:
Excellencies,
Mr. President,
Mr. General Secretary,
High Commissioner,
Distinguished Heads of State and Government,
Honorable Ministers,
Dear colleagues,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today it’s a great honor and pleasure for me to have the
opportunity to discuss such an important, yet still underestimated, topic in
your presence. I speak not for myself, but so that the voiceless may be heard.
It's time to ensure quality education for all individuals fighting for their
rights.
Ensuring education is the best investment a country can
make. School allows us to build fair, prosperous and healthy societies. Goal 4
of the 2030 Agenda aims to promise a better future for our planet. Knowing, is
a weapon for change.
Education is fundamental to reducing poverty and increasing
economic returns, decreasing inequalities, limiting crime, encouraging the
achievement of full potential, peace and sustainable development.
I consider myself a lucky person, respectable listeners,
since despite my serious health problems the school has never denied me the
right to study. I'm not rich, I'm not the most intelligent, I'm a woman, I have
illnesses...I have many defects but books, pens and excellent teachers have
never been denied to me. However, I am sadly aware that such an opportunity
wouldn’t have been granted to me in different countries.
There are over 258 million children who, due to conflicts,
disasters, poverty, disability and indifference, do not receive an adequate
education and are forced to repress their dreams and talents.
It’s education, esteemed public, the key to the achievement
of all human rights.
School should be compulsory and free, equipped with
classrooms, correct tools and trained teachers, accessible and suitable for
children with disabilities, neutral. It should train people aware of the fact
that their preparation is the only certainty of opportunity and freedom.
In front of such an important Assembly, my hope is to have
convinced as many people as possible to pursue this goal of common interest. As
we well know, due to devastating human actions, the earth is increasingly
approaching a point of no return. Guaranteeing the right to quality education
is the only way to save ourselves by understanding, modifying and improving
reality.
What else to say I don't know. The words are carried away by
the wind, the facts are what count. Let's give younger generations the chance
to create a brighter tomorrow. Let's secure this right and save our world.
Thanks everyone for your attention.
So, what do you think? Do you agree with me? Do you have
even just a little more desire, compared to before reading the post, to improve
this planet of ours? Do you have any ideas in mind that you could add to the
previous hypothetical speech to make it even better and more convincing? Let me
know…
And for those who attend schools in which they continually
find faults and reasons to complain...what's wrong? Is it you, the teachers,
the subjects or the system? Is it possible to resolve it only by discussing it?
Learn to consider yourselves lucky, as there are wonders in the world that
cannot shine and show their value due to injustice. Never, and I mean never,
let someone else do something for you. Never throw away dreams and determination.
Never judge without acting. Learn mistakes from history to avoid them, learn
new languages to be able to communicate with anyone and philosophy to be able
to understand anyone, learn mathematics to be able to solve any problem and
science to understand what our surroundings are made of. Anyone who has even
half an opportunity before them should take it and transform this horrible
world from many points of view into something fantastic.
Today’s Blogger
Hi everyone, for those who don't know me yet, I'm Marina
Lostun, and I'm a student at the Braschi-Qurenghi high school. This bio is too
short to contain all my interests, so, dear readers, you will discover them all
gradually by reading my articles and posts. However, although I really like the
idea of leaving you hanging, for now, know that I love travelling, nature and
helping others.
